Well as I'll be driving my dad's vectra for the foreseeable future I figured I should start a thread for his so I can chart the trials and tribulations (of the latter I hope there is very few).

Well today she's been given a good clean and as soon as I work out how to move the fitted floor mats she'll get a good old vacuum out too.

    Next jobs on the list are;

    1) Fix the climate control (plugged the car in and it reckons an open circuit)
    2) Get the flexi pipe replaced as it's blown and car sounds like a tank
    3) Try and fix cruise control problem (checked this too and it reckons cruise control switch malfunction or something like that so will try cleaning the contacts)
    4) Give the old girl a good old polish and vac out the interior and clean all the leather etc.
    5) De-badge it

Discovered something very strange. When it's hot and dry like it has been the last few days the blower works for a couple of seconds most trips and sometimes it comes on for a couple of minutes or even til the engine is switched off. Garage reckoned it could be the bearing causing an open circuit? As the bearing is clearly on it's way out we're looking into replacing the blower motor and the resistor in case it's the resistor that's playing up. If that doesn't fix it then I'm stumped.

Wow just realised not updated this in a while. Had pipe replaced so now quiet again. Still gotta try and sort out the climate control though.

Not many as its dad's car. I'm tempted to do a few minor cosmetic improvements but depends if he'll stop being so awkward haha

Not had many updates as she's not my daily drive anymore (obviously) but recently I have had to replaced the auxillary drive belt as it snapped, and this morning I had to change the O/S/F drop link.

    Nice shiny new drop link.

And tomorrow I fully intend to carry out the Air box mod and just wont tell him. :)

Car has also since the previous update back in November the climate control has been fixed too. she is almost back to running beautifully. Just gotta try and tidy up the bodywork now even tho it seems to keep acquiring new dents and scuffs. Dad claims he doesn't know how they get there but can 1 person really be that unlucky with car park scrapes?

Well a productive day I think.
Have changed the oil and filter, air filter and spark plugs. Carried out an engine flush, upgraded the headlight bulbs to philips 130% brighter, air box mod, cleaned out throttle body AND switched the fogs to drls. Pretty chuffed with myself.

Only thing left to try and sort out is the dodgy reversing light.

It keeps flickering. I've tried swapping bulb holders around, cleaned the contacts, changed the bulb, cleaned the contacts in the bulb but it still keeps dimming and flagging up a bulb warning light

And the saga continues. Dad wants me to go round when he gets home from work as he says it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders. Will update with any fault codes it flags up.

Well as for the running issue, it appears to be behaving again now. Went in for mot yesterday and failed on emissions. Apparently the mot tester heard a slight misfire. Upon checking the spark plugs I found the gaps were too close together so I adjusted them to 0.05m off of what they should be (0.75 instead of 0.80 as I didn't have a gauge that was 0.80). Mood knows what they were set to before it certainly wasn't anywhere near that gap. Fingers crossed it passes when it goes in for retest tomorrow.
Another slightly more positive update, I finally fixed the boot switch and knocked the boot dent out a little. All in all the boot now works without having to keep thumping it haha.

Went in for a retest and apparently it was smoking too much to retest. Apparently smoke smelt of oil and paraffin?
