Recently car has been cutting out when idling. Idle is erratic before it cuts out. Does it when stationary but also in stop start traffic when also appear sluggish or like a 'limp home mode'.

Car restarts and may repeat fault or it's okay for a while. Intermittent issue. Did it twice yesterday. Local journeys in and out of shops. Go to start and after a few minutes, idle goes erratic then cuts out. Did it a couple of times. Then while in traffic did it a couple of times. Before it cut out I was conscious it was sluggish, as I say, like a 'limp home mode'.

Car has a lightened flywheel and the engine is in tip top condition as was completely overhauled not so long ago - top and bottom end rebuild.

It's going in to be looked at by my mechanic friend on Tuesday so anything I can mention to him that might help in diagnose and fix the fault would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Neil

ICV if there is one fitted. Not too up on the V6 VX engines.

Thanks Paul. I've got the Courtenay Sport modified tb with the machined out housing and larger throttle butterfly, etc. Interesting as my mechanic friend was thinking about that too when I spoke to him on Saturday.

Might suggest a strip down and remove tb and check it all out, etc.

Could be the sensor on the side on the throttle body on yours? Mines a sealed unit so had to be replaced.

I paid £260.50 to Courts to rework the tb so hopefully I don't have to replace it.

You won't as the sensor on your tb can be taken off and replaced. held on with two screws iirc.

If it's the 2.5 TB Neil, then this is correct. However, all of the symptoms sound exactly like what our 2.2 (C22SEL) was doing when its cam sensor/cam sensor loom failed. This might be worth bearing in mind.

Did Courtenay supply the TPS on the TB? My 2.5 occasionally has a strange wandering sort of idle. It's the wiring to the TPS. I know because I can jiggle the connector and change the idle...lol. I've not bothered to rewire it yet as it only does it maybe 5% of the time.

P.S. The 2.5 cam sensor is one of the 3 connectors on the top of the front bank. A single bolt onto the top of the head at the sensor end. Maybe give it a jiggle when it plays up.

Thanks Mr V. Courts just provided the TB (the one I sent them to be reworked then they sent it back to me). TPS original item. I'll be sure to mention the cam sensor to my friend.

Get them to give the wiring a wriggle on the tps if it stalls or the idle goes mad on it then it's defo the tps that's knackard mate

Don't know if it's me but even on short drive back home from garage, car seems to be driving a lot better. Must be one of those imperceptible things where gets progressively worse over time but you just don't notice until it starts manifesting the fault like it had started to do ie cutting out, etc

So what did the garage say or do ? All I can glean from your pic is that a Bosch part may have been used.

Sorry for the confusion. The original Bosch TPS has been replaced with a new Bosch TPS (rather than a generic item).

Garage also removed TB and gave it a clean up as well as the K&N panel filter.

    The offending item
