hi I have a 2000 gsi 2.5 it had a very heavy steering when I purchased it , so I had the fluid changed added some zx1 extralube (which helped ) but the steering seemed to get a heavy spot at @ the 2 oclock mark ( face of a clock , not time lol) so had a replacement pump and valve and a new steering rack fitted way better but the 2 o clock thing is still there !! got the lower uj steering joint off and it looks fine no play but how do you check for high spots ?

Sometimes telescopic part on shaft between joints sticks and can cause a tight spot.

Mine was doing the same thing turned out to be the top mounts on mine. It could be that on yours aswell.

My b estate would start off nice and light and after a while it would also feel a tad heavy. Could just be the norm for hydraulic steering.

The vec is a notoriously heavy steering car to be fair. If it is sticking at random points then also check the wishbone to hub ball joint, it'd be unlikely but the boot car split slightly and the joint can dry out. Again same with the drop links, I've had it once when the upper joint dried out and caused slightly stiff steering, I was very surprised because I'd never heard of it in my nearly 20 years working with cars. Might be worthwhile getting a shot of another one the same spec and comparing it
