After my last project crashing and burning with too much rust I've hunted around and managed to come across a 2002 2.6, 84k, been parked up for the last 7 years.
It doesn't need a huge amount of work but I want to get it as close to new as I can. So thought I'd start a diary of how it's coming along.

Got her home and had a good look round. Generally in ok condition, a bit of paint needed here and there. Suspension will all be changed (I do that with almost all cars) and a little bit of TLC.

How she stood at first. Paint like sandpaper and looking a bit dirty to the trained eye

I started off with giving her a good wash, then on to a full clay bar, then another wash which smoothed the paint nicely. The amount of contaminents on it was unreal!

On to the machine polisher with autosmart evo 3
    [IMG]

Then 1 to bring out the colour.
It's miles better but I'm going to give the bonnet a wet sand and paint correction. The rest of the car should do well with just a good machine polish

Picked up a cheap grille too, not the best but it'll do for just now

My OCD kicked in as I like things to be clean and tidy. A very small amount of rust at points underneath. 5 mins with a wire brush and a bit of underseal. I'll do the whole car but in stages.

On to the rear suspension, It was tired so I dropped everything including the rear subframe which is away to the powder coaters along with the suspension mounts. They look bad in the pics but they're actually pretty solid with just a load of crap on the outside.

The shocks where knackered but I've got a set of eibachs and bilsteins sitting to go on anyway.

Who can spot the issue here? They both came off the back

2 different sized springs and shocks. Looks like someone has just swapped one corner for some unknown and silly reason.

New arms are on order along with a few other bits and bobs, Rose bushes are all pretty loose so they're getting swapped whilst I'm in there too.

Not much work will be done on it for a few days until I get the parts back from the powder coaters....

I can't even use the demon drink as an excuse, I was on my break in work. Ended up getting poly bushes for the trailing arms for £40....Couldn't knock back a bargain like that! :p

Got the parts back from the powder coaters a bit sharp and I have a couple days off so I set about putting it back together. Had a hell of a time with the anti roll bar links, push on type but they where too small. Apparently there is only 1 size even though there are 3 different sized anti roll bars. Anyway, A bit of modifying and I got them on.

Dropped both arms and put in new rose bushes and gave them a paint. Waiting on the new trailing arm bushes coming and I'll get them fitted before putting them back on the car.

Built up the rear suspension, eibachs and bilsteins. Will be nice once I finally get to drive her!
Hoping the bushes will arrive tomorrow and I can get the back end fully built back up and everything torqued correctly. Just going to keep the mud guards off, give it a good cleaning then blast it with waxoyl.

Yeah buddy, don't even waste your time trying to do them without the tool. I've always used them, I can do them on the car in under an hour a side and that includes messing about a bit

That's the suspension done all round but I'm not sure about the front strut tops. The top hat part (Above the turret) is sitting about 5mm proud of the body and that's with me using the slimmer half nut. I can't remember it being like this before and I'm sure any other ones I done sat fairly tight. Anyone able to shed any light?
P.s. she is looking great with the slight drop....

Sorry guys, went a bit quiet!
I've still been pottering away, not got as many pictures as I'd like to have tho!

I changed the timing belt and waterpump
    [IMG]
, power steering pump (Bitch of a job), dropped the front subframe
    [IMG]

and put the refurbed one back on with the old rack I rebuilt. Steering feels miles better now, no tight spots.

I had a bit of an issue with a drip from the power steering, it appears to have been from the jubilee clipped pipe at the pump. Think it is sorted now.

Gave her an oil/filter change. Fired up and it is sounding lovely.

Started doing a bit of machine polishing on her and it comes up very well but I am definitely budgeting for a respray because of some of the rust bubbles. May aswell get it done properly. Looking forward to having perhaps one of the cleanest Vec's about :)
